Waldport: Where the Forest Meets the Sea

This charming small coastal community is really that a Community of 2050 people many of whom have some relationship to the families that were early loggers, fishermen and farmers in the area. Located 18 miles South of the County seat at Newport, Waldport sits on the banks of Alsea Bay. Alsea Bay and the Alsea River Basin are famous for the runs of two species of salmon, sea run cutthroat trout and of course some of the very best Dungeness crab on the Coast. Venturing into the hills to the East of town a visitor is likely to encounter herds of majestic elk as they graze the meadows as peaceful as cows. Waldport his becoming a retirement haven as well as a perfect place for vacation homes. All the outdoor activities are to be enjoyed here on miles of sandy beaches where agates and fossils abound. Besides fishing, crabbing, photography and bird watching kayaking is becoming very popular. One of the real treats is to stop in at Dan O’s Café for some really good home cooking.

Things to Do in Waldport

Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center
Daily bridge tours during the summer (at 2 p.m.) led by a park naturalist. The tours cover the story of the bridge replacement. Also available are clamming and crabbing demonstrations.
